Vytynanka

Vytynanka (from the Ukrainian word “vitynaty,” meaning “to cut out” or “to turn inside out”) is a form of folk decorative art, particularly in Ukraine. It encompasses both narrative and ornamental decorations for homes—often featuring intricate, lace-like designs or silhouettes.

For me, vytynanky embody essential characteristics that both captivate and inspire: symmetry, vibrant colors, and ornamental richness. They evoke a sense of botanical or floral essence.

These vytynanky resemble colorful dreams filled with silhouettes, whether human, animal, or plant. In the hues of these dreams, anyone can glimpse what resides on the surface of their consciousness and what resonates with them.
